Mouthwatering food

The speciality of Turkey is that every place has a different kitchen culture and creates a variety of dishes using different recipes and ingredients. When you think about Turkish cuisine, the first thing that comes to mind is Kebabs and Baklava. But in reality, it is much more than that. It has fresh seafood and a maze, along with plenty of desserts, Ottoman classics, breakfast spreads, vegetable dishes and many more.

Beautiful beaches

Some of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey are Antalya, Bodrum, Fethiye and Izmir, where you can find great beach parties and secluded coves. By taking a Blue Cruise, you can enjoy the beauty of all the beaches in Turkey, along with the ones on the Mediterranean or Aegean Coast.

Turkish baths

People mostly visit Turkey for a hammam experience that is one of a kind in the world. It is, in fact, the best healing experience that you will ever have. Just the feeling of being scrubbed, washed and massaged in a foam soap is alluring. So imagine how great it will be to experience it in person.

Archaeological sites

Turkey has witnessed the rise and fall of many empires and civilisations. Hence it has a remarkable number of archaeological sites widespread across the country. Here you will find the remains of the Istanbul Palace and temples, the ruins of Ephesus and the underground cities of Cappadocia, which are an absolute heaven for history lovers and archaeologists.

Excellent museums

And if you want to avoid visiting these archaeological sites but still want to learn about the country’s history, you can see the museums here where they preserve the findings from these sites. You can explore them one by one by starting with the Zeugma in Gaziantep and then moving on to the Ottoman palace museums of Istanbul.

Shopping

The thing that attracts tourists mainly is the shopping culture, and Turkey has it all. Since it has one of the most incredible cuisines in the world, its streets are bustling with open-air markets and food stalls. In addition, there are many small markets nearby where the natives buy fresh produce. Meanwhile, tourists usually shop in the Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar to satisfy shopaholics.

The People

Turkish people are known for hospitality, and spending time with them will only increase your knowledge and worth. They will always invite you for a cup of tea, a delicious meal or dessert.

Places to visit in Turkey

Now that you have enough reasons to visit Turkey let’s move on to the places you can visit during your trip to this beautiful country.

Balat, Istanbul

Balat, the old Jewish quarter in Istanbul, is truly an artist’s dream, with colour-popping pockets amidst the low-key residential streets. Its stairs are painted bright and have terraced wooden houses in rainbow shades and sugary pastels. You can roam the streets and explore its vintage shops, rootsy cafes, edgy art galleries, and live music venues.

Butterfly Valley, Fethiye

While walking around the Lycian Way, the one thing that is undoubtedly going to blow your mind is the spectacular view as you pass above the Butterfly Valley. It is rich in colossal cliffs and specially sheered coves that stand tall on either side of the narrow blue bay. On its foot is a beautiful beach that is accessible only by boat. Here they have a beach bar which serves grilled fish and beers. In addition, they conduct yoga classes beneath the trees. As you move forward, you will come across the valley boasting waterfalls and lush greenery. During spring, you can spot more than 100 varieties of butterflies here. Hence it is known as the Butterfly Valley.

Ephesus

Turkey has many archaeological sites that are less visited than those in Italy and Greece. Of all these sites, Ephesus comes first because of its colossal size. In this UNESCO-protected ancient city lies the Temple of Artemis, named among the world’s seven wonders. Sadly, there isn’t much left there as most of its remains have been damaged. But Ephesus still has many things to offer to its visitors. Its history dates back 9000 years and has monuments of various religions, including Hindu, Christian, Hellenistic, Ottoman and Greek.

Kas

The ancient hidden fishing village, Kas, is a favourite spot of hippies and boho-chic Turks. White-washed villas line the traditional streets and have wooden balconies with bougainvillaea hanging all over them. Here you will also come across the turquoise sea, along with swimming terraces and daybeds, which is indeed a feast for your eyes. The beaches over there are all dazzling in white and blue and are surrounded by dramatic cliffs. Near the island of Kekova, there is an underwater city where you can snorkel in its crystal-clear waters.

Patara

Patara holds the credit of being the longest and the most beautiful beach in Turkey. It is spread over seven miles and remains almost empty most of the time. On its one edge, there is pale sand and on the other side, has pine trees, marshes and lagoons. Now it has been converted into a natural birdlife park mainly surrounded by water and wildlife. Here you can also spot the endangered loggerhead turtles. It is primarily because of them that the beach remains protected and unspoiled. Along the shore, you can find the ruins of a theatre and a parliament building, which was buried under the sand in the 1990s. It is believed that Apollo’s temple is still buried somewhere there. Unfortunately, they are yet to discover it.

The domes of Istanbul

Besides the Bosphorus Bridge lies the modest Ortakoy Mosque, which is lined with white marble and stone and has pink mosaics. It offers a breathtaking view of the sunset and sunrise. Istanbul has some of the most beautiful mosques in the world. One of its architectural masterpieces, the Hagia Sofia, was built 1500 years ago as a Byzantine Cathedral. Ottomans converted it into a mosque, and in 1930 it became a mosque. But visitors of all religions are welcome to offer their prayers here and enjoy its architectural beauty. There are also other beautiful mosques in Istanbul that you should not miss at any cost.

Gumusluk, Bodrum

Till the 20th century, the fishing villages around the Bodrum Peninsula were accessible only by boats. And it is still the easiest mode of transportation to these regions. Out of them, the most charming one is the Gumusluk village. Ramshackle restaurants and stylish shacks line its shores, where they will serve you freshly caught meze and grilled fish when your feet are still in the water. Trees are adorned with handpainted gourd lanterns and give you an out-of-the-world experience. It is also the best spot to watch the sunset in Bodrum.

Blue Lagoon, Oludeniz

The sight of turquoise water, surrounded by white sand, is so soothing to our eyes that we won’t feel like coming back. This area will give you a Maldivian vibe and is protected by the green-forested promontories. They are similar to sleeping dragons. In the sky, you will see paragliders enjoying its panoramic beauty. You can try it if you have an adventurous corner somewhere inside you.

The pools of Pamukkale

The mineral springs flowing down Turkey’s Buyuk Manderes valley for thousands of years have created an extraordinary sight of Pamukkale, meaning cotton castle. Its overall view appears like a wedding cake icing dripping down the hillside. It’s a favourite spot of tourists, but they often neglect the ancient ruins of the Greco-Roman spa town Heirapolis, which is at the top of the site. Here you will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bath in the hot tub used by Cleopatra, which is believed to be a gift from Mark Antony.

The fairy chimneys of Cappadocia

Lying high on the Anatolian Plateau, the marvellous landscapes of Cappadocia resemble more of a fantasy world. Its honey-coloured rocks have eroded and faded and now look like minarets. It is now commonly known as Fairy Chimneys. On the other hand, in its underground, you will find churches, cave houses and monasteries built in the Bronze Age. You can take a hot-air balloon ride during sunrise and sunset to enjoy its scenic beauty. It is one of the most romantic spots in the world.
